FMB Reception to launch report 'Homes on our high streets'
90% of MPs say that converting empty spaces above shops could help to solve the housing crisis is revealed in new Federation of Master Builders (FMB) research report ‘Homes on our high streets’.
Lukasz Kisiel and Annie Summun, were invited to the prestigious launch of this research report at the House of Lords on 11/12/17. Hosted by Baroness Maddock, the event had cross party support with speeches from Sajid Javi MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and John Healey MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Housing.
Sajid Javi explained that in the last year there had been a 217,000 net addition to the housing supply and 40,000 of this total was from change of use which included taking spaces above shops and turning them into homes.
Sajid continued ‘There is no reason why commercial and residential cannot co-exist happily together. I grew up above the family shop so I have seen for myself how you can really put the theory into practice.’
Annie Summun, General Manager at a Raynes Park based Master Builder Company, was in agreement with the support for small builders that was a theme of the evening’s event.
“As an SME, Kisiel Group is in a good position to play a part in the construction of more much needed homes in the local community. It is essential to explore all possibilities and that is why we are pleased to be supporting the research from the FMB. Master Builders need to play a part in helping to solve the housing crisis by providing a trusted quality of construction”.
